If you’re thinking, “Can I access my super for IVF?”, you’re not alone. Fertility treatment costs in Australia are often substantial, and many hopeful parents explore whether they can use their superannuation to help.

That’s why at FertilityPsych, we specialise in the compassionate release of superannuation through providing the expert psychiatric assessments required. Fertility treatment can be expensive, often involving specialist fees, medications, and multiple treatment cycles. Accessing your superannuation can help ease financial stress so you can focus on what really matters – your wellbeing and your journey to parenthood. However, early access is only available in specific situations under compassionate grounds, as approved by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

What Does the Process Look Like?

  1. Referral/Booking: Request a referral from your GP and send it to us or book your appointment through our website.
  2. Attend Your Appointment: Attend an appointment with one of our Psychiatrists via Zoom.
  3. Pay Your Invoice & Receive Your Report: Receive your report and Compassionate release of Super form once payment has been made.
  4. GP or FS Appointment: Meet with your GP or Fertility Specialist so they can complete their version of the compassionate release of super form.
  5. Submit Your Application: Upload the application to the ATO (Super section of MyGov) & wait for approval.

Beyond IVF Super Access: Providing Emotional and Psychological Support

Accessing your super for IVF can feel complex, yet you don’t need to do it alone. FertilityPsych not only provides the required psychiatric documentation for early release of super for IVF, we also offer tailored emotional and psychological support to help you navigate the process with confidence and clarity. Our psychologists, experienced in fertility mental health, can provide ongoing psychological care during your fertility journey, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue.

You can contact our team to book a consultation or discuss how we can assist with your super access assessment and help support your fertility journey.

To apply for early release of super for IVF, you must provide:

• Two medical reports: one from your GP and another from a registered medical specialist (e.g., psychiatrist).
• Itemised quotes or unpaid invoices for the treatment.
• A completed CRS (Compassionate Release of Superannuation) form.

Note: The ATO requires reports to be completed no more than six months before submission.

FertilityPsych provides the necessary psychiatric assessments and CRS reports required for your application. Our experienced psychiatrists can guide you through the process, ensuring all documentation meets ATO standards.

The process can vary depending on individual circumstances.

• To help you be seen as quickly as possible, all FertilityPsych consultations are offered via telehealth, making them convenient and accessible from anywhere. We also maintain an active cancellation list, so you can be offered an earlier appointment if one becomes available.
• The assessment session typically lasts 45–60 minutes.
• Report preparation by FertilityPsych is completed within 1–2 working days.
• ATO review and approval can take up to 2 weeks.

The cost of your appointment depends on several factors, including:

• Medicare rebates (if eligible).
• Referral requirements (GP).
• Rural rebates (if applicable).

For a detailed breakdown of costs, please refer to our Fees page.

If the ATO declines your application, they will provide reasons for the decision. FertilityPsych can assist in reviewing the feedback and, if necessary, provide updated documentation to support a reapplication.
